Reno, NV – Child Killed in Fatal Crash at Sutro St & E 9th St

Reno, NV (April 29, 2021) – Around 8:20 p.m. on the night of Wednesday, April 28, a child was killed in a fatal crash in Reno.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the intersection of Sutro Street and East 9th Street. At the time, a purple Scion was headed east when it ran through a red light and struck a white Honda Accord.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. A 5-year-old passenger in the Honda was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced deceased while there.

The driver of the Scion, who had a passenger with him, fled the scene of the crash. Officials were able to catch up to the driver, identified as 33-year-old Jesse Allen Bennett. He has since been arrested on various charges.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for a period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
