Reno, NV (July 23, 2021) – Around 4:20 a.m. on Friday morning, July 23, a child was killed in a fatal rollover accident in Reno.
According to the Reno Police Department, the accident happened on I-80 around the Wells area. A driver was traveling east on the highway in their minivan when they tried to avoid debris that was scattered all over the road. They swerved to the left, which caused their vehicle to roll in the median.
Paramedics and numerous other local responders were called to the scene to help. They confirmed that a 4-year-old child in the van was not restrained correctly and was ejected from the van. They were tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The adult female driving the vehicle, as well as another juvenile passenger, received injuries in the accident. They are expected to be okay.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time as police worked to clear the scene.
The Nevada Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the collision.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with all those involved in this incident.
