Sparks, NV (July 2, 2021) – Around 8:45 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, June 30, a man was killed in a bicycle crash in Sparks.
According to Washoe County officials, the accident happened at the intersection of Rock Boulevard and Oddie Boulevard. Police confirmed that 59-year-old Artemio Arriaga-Oliva was riding a bicycle in the area when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle that was traveling through the intersection.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were called to the scene. Arriaga-Oliva received traumatic injuries and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead while there.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim remained at the scene so that the driver could cooperate with the police.
Due to the severity of the crash, the roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
