5/6 Sparks, NV – Three-Vehicle Collision on I-80 Leads to Injuries

Stateline, NV (March 10, 2021) – Around 5 p.m. on Sunday evening, March 7, a man was killed in a fatal crash in Stateline.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident took place on US-50 around the area of Marla Bay. The driver of a Subaru was headed east on US-50 while a Toyota pickup truck was headed east in the left lane. The driver of the Subaru entered the other lane of traffic for unknown reasons, where it hit the rear of the Toyota. The vehicles both overturned, leading to severe damages.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 52-year-old Rafael Cortez, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was severely injured and taken to the hospital by medical helicopter. The driver of the Subaru was also taken to the hospital by medical helicopter.

NHP believes that the driver of the Subaru may have been impaired at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
