Reno, NV (August 3, 2021) – A woman who was killed in a wrong-way car accident that occurred last Wednesday morning, July 28, has now been identified.
Elizabeth Andrews, 39, of Sparks, died after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80. The accident occurred on westbound I-80 near the Boomtown Road exit, per reports from authorities. Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 3:30 a.m.
According to troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol, Andrews collided head-on with another vehicle on the highway. Despite life-saving efforts, Andrews was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries, though there has been no update on their current condition. Debris from the crash also struck a large big rig traveling near the incident, but police did not say if the driver of the truck was injured.
Authorities are investigating whether an impairment is the primary cause of the accident. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Elizabeth Andrews at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
