Tonopah, NV (September 14, 2020) – On Friday, September 11, one person was killed in a wrong-way collision in Tonopah.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the driver of a Hummer was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic on US-95 and around 2 a.m., the driver collided into a Nissan Sentra headed in the northbound lane.
The driver of the Sentra was identified as 58-year-old Susan Teves. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Hummer was identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Ames. Ames was taken into custody for several charges including a probation violation, driving under the influence, not stopping at the scene of an accident, lack of proof of insurance, and many other violations. Police believe that Ames lost control because he was impaired and speeding.
The northbound lanes of US-95 in the area of the accident were closed the entire morning. Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
